Hanoi street becomes a congestion hotspot

Nguyen Tuan, 670-metre long and 6-metre wide street in Hanoi has been surrounded by many high-rise apartment buildings, showcasing the lack of proper urban planning.

It is estimated that 6,000 apartments have been put on sale along Nguyen Tuan Street in Thanh Xuan District.

Some of the major projects include the Imperial Garden with 1,632 apartments, the TNR GoldSeason with 1,500 apartments and Thong Nhat Complex with 552 apartments. The lands used to be owned by old factories. After the factories were relocated, the land was converted to build apartment buildings.

All of the promised utilities like parks and playgrounds are hardly seen. Despite the lack of promised green space, many apartments are still sold at high prices of VND30m (USD1,300) to VND45m per square metre due to their prime location. There are many schools, universities and firms near the area.

The apartment building projects are only hundreds of metres apart from each other. During rush hours, traffic bottlenecks occur and the overcrowding and lack of planning becomes clearer every day.

A road expansion project is being set into motion to relief the congestion there. According to the project, Nguyen Tuan Street will be 21 metres wide. Thanh Xuan District People's Committee has issued a plan to survey the site and the ground clearance will affect 160 households and 11 firms.
