Cold spell, rain forecasted to hit northern region

A cold snap and rain would affect the northern region this weekend, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The centre reported that the cold weather would appear in the region on September 26-28, bringing about rain.

Mountainous areas would see rains of up to 40-120mm/24 hours along with strong wind. The heavy rain would focus from late evening of Saturday to Sunday morning. Thunder, lightning and hail are also expected.

Some mountainous localities would experience rain this evening.

Mai Van Khiem, director of the National Hydro-meteorological Forecast Centre, earlier said that this year’s winter in the north would come earlier than usual and the region would experience cold snaps with the temperatures much lower than usual.

Sapa Town in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai recently faced a sharp temperature drop to around 10 degrees centigrade.
