The landslide was discovered at Vuon Gia Mountain in Dong Village, Truong Yen Commune. According to the local people, they heard loud noises on the mountain since October 16 and saw trees suddenly fell down. The villagers quickly moved away and reported the situation to the local authorities. Fatal landslides had occurred in this area before.

Two days later, the authorities evacuated 10 more households to their relatives or the village common houses. 14 households living in adjacent areas were also relocated in case of emergency.

Nguyen Quoc Hung, vice chairman of Hoa Lu District People's Committee said after detecting new landslide signs, they had surveyed the fields and estimated that thousands of cubic metres of limestone will fall down.
