Hoang Thanh Thuy receives the donation.

Dantri representatives visited and transferred VND207,609,000 (USD8,900) to Hoang Thanh Thuy on October 26.

Thuy said she had received much help after her story was published. Many people donated directly to her nearly VND90m (USD3,800). Thuy thanked everyone that helped her and said that she felt much more confident and hopeful when fighting against illnesses.

Dr Pham Van Thai, deputy director of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology Centre under Bach Mai Hospital said, "We are all very grateful to you. We hope that other disadvantaged cases at the hospitals will continue to receive help from everyone."

Thuy was diagnosed with last-stage lung cancer in June 2018. Her husband suffered from kidney failure and had to go to the hospital for kidney dialysis three times a week. In 2014, they sold their house for his kidney transplant but he had heart disease afterwards.

In 2019, Thuy's tumour spread to her liver and pancreas so she started having chemotherapy sessions. In September, Thuy was diagnosed with ovarian cancer which had already spread to her spine.

Since most treatments proved to be useless, the doctors advised her to use immunotherapy which costs VND60m (USD2,600) each time. However, the family has run out of money.

According to Thai, Thuy's condition has got a bit better and she started taking the medicine used in immunotherapy.

Nguyen Thi Anh Trang, Thuy's co-worker, said, "We've tried to help her as much as we can but it's not enough. We really appreciate your help."
