Helicopters will be used to search for 26 fishermen in Binh Dinh Province who went missing after their vessels sank while trying to avoid Storm Molave.

On October 28, the Steering Committee on Storm Molave responses in Danang announced that the Ministry of Defence has sent boats and considered a plan to use helicopters to search for the fishermen on two boats which sank at the sea on October 27.

Deputy Chief Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Binh of the Vietnam People's Army said, "We hope that all fishermen wear life jackets and are still alive."

He went on to say that two boats have been sent to rescue the fishing boat numbered BD98658 which is floating on the sea after the engine died since yesterday. The navy ships were able to contact the boat BD98658. However, because of strong waves, the rescue mission has to be carried out carefully. It is estimated that the rescue boats will be able to approach the boat BD98658 at 8 pm on October 28.

Another boat was sent help in the search for 26 missing fishermen.

Binh said, "If the helicopters are used, they will help expand the scope and speed up the search. We'll use them as soon as the weather allows. We are doing our best to deal with the storm and the aftermath."

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has asked all agencies and the military to prepare all search and rescue plans.

A fishing boat in the southern central province of Binh Dinh sank while trying to seek shelter on October 27, leaving 12 fishermen missing. The boat BD 96388TS owned by Le Van in Hoai Nhon District sank suddenly while on the way to the Cam Ranh area in Khanh Hoa to shelter from Storm Molave. Around 30 minutes later, another boat found the location of fishing boat BD 96388TS but saw no people on there. Khanh Hoa authorities asked all boats and ships operating in the area where the incident occurred to help search for the missing people.

Another boat from Binh Dinh sank suddenly on the same day when 318km from Nha Trang City. At the time, 14 fishermen were on the boat and all of them have gone missing.
