Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has asked to establish a taskforce to search for 46 people who are missing after two landslides in the central province of Quang Nam.

Nam Tra My District faces torrential rain.

On Wednesday, Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung chaired a meeting with the Vietnam People's Army 5th Military Region and Quang Nam authorities on the landslides in Nam Tra My District which killed seven and left 46 others missing.

The incidents occurred in Tra Leng Commune due to Storm Molave.

Dung also cited Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s instructions as saying agencies, military forces and local authorities have to co-operate and use any method necessary to rescue victims of the two landslides.

According to Dung, it was essential to have a taskforc to co-ordinate the rescue. The team led by Le Tri Thanh, chairman of Quang Nam Province People’s Committee includes representatives from the Vietnam People's Army 5th Military Region and the National Steering Committee for Rescue and Search Work.

Dung noted that it was important to define exactly where the incident had happened and ensure safety for the rescue forces. The rescue needed to learn experiences from the case of Rao Trang 3 Hydropower Plant in which a rescue team died while searching for 13 people.

Rescue efforts are facing challenges because of the impacts of Storm Molave, which has triggered landslides and disrupted traffic to Tra Leng Commune.
