Vietnam records 117 more Covid-19 patients, Monday tally reaches 184

An additional 117 Covid-19 infection cases were reported in Vietnam as of Monday evening, raising the daily counts to 184 and the total number of patients in the country to 4,359, the Ministry of Health has reported.

Earlier, 67 new patients were announced in the ministry's morning and noon reports.

According to the ministry's evening report, 116 out of the 117 newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases who were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown, including 61 in Bac Giang Province, 38 in Bac Ninh Province, seven in Danang City, five in Hanoi, two in Phu Tho Province, two in Hung Yen Province, and one in Vinh Phuc Province.

The 61 cases in Bac Giang were recorded at some industrial zones of Van Trung, Dinh Tram and Quang Chau which have reported a large outbreak over the last few days. Earlier the same day, 36 new infections were also confirmed.

As of Monday evening 1,320 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27. The outbreak has so far spread to 27 cities and provinces nationwide.

One imported patient is a 23-year-old woman who returned from Japan to Khanh Hoa Province's Cam Ranh Airport on May 14. She was sent to a local quarantine site upon arrival and is now being treated at a local clinic.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 4,359, including 2,890 locally-transmitted cases.

As of 6 pm on May 17, a total of 2,668 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.

So far there have been 37 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, over 108, 000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.

On May 16, 2,206 more people were given Covid-19 vaccine in Vietnam, raising the total number of vaccinated people to 979,238 including 22,561 people having received two doses.
