Thap Cham-Da Lat railway reopening under consideration
The Ministry of Transport has agreed to conduct a feasibility study into the resumption of the Thap Cham-Da Lat railway route.
The feasibility study will be carried out by Bach Dang Hotel Complex Trading-Service Joint Stock Company.
The Vietnam Railway Administration has been asked to instruct the firm to complete procedures for the feasibility study.
The 84-km Thap Cham-Da Lat cogged railway route was built in 1932. It runs through five tunnels and two bridges and Ngoan Muc and D’ran passes.
After 1975, all railway tracks and sleepers of the route were removed. Currently, only a 7-kilometre section from Trai Mat to Da Lat is being operated to serve tourists.
According to the Lam Dong People’s Committee, many firms wanted to implement the project over the past ten years, but the plans remained confined to paper.
