Terminal 2 at Phu Bai International Airport in the central province of Thua Thien Hue is scheduled to be put into service in April.

The terminal is part of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV)’s project worth VND2.25 trillion (USD96.13 million) to build traffic roads, parking lots and other facilities at Phu Bai Airport.

Up to 95 percent of the work has been carried out.

Phu Bai Airport was built in 1940 for both civil and military purposes. In 2013, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) invested VND700 billion to upgrade the airport.

The 22,380 square-metre Terminal 2 is designed to serve five million passengers annually, including a million international visitors. The existing terminal which can handle 1.5 million passengers per year will be used to serve cargo only.

Terminal 2’s design is inspired by Hue Citadel.

On Friday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited the construction site, urging contractors to speed up the project so it can service Reunification Day (April 30) and International Labour Day holidays.
