A regular road cargo service between China’s Chongqing city and Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, will start operation in July, Xinhua news agency reported, citing sources from local authorities.

According to Chongqing transportation authorities, the locality has planned three routes to ASEAN countries. The eastern route to Hanoi of Vietnam is already in operation.

In July, a 2,800-kilometre long central route will connect Chongqing and Bangkok through Vientiane, Laos.

He Zonghai, head of Chongqing’s transportation group said the third one, a western route from Chongqing to Yangon, Myanmar, will open later this year or in early 2018.

The cargo routes will help increase the volume of fruits, cereals, timber and other agricultural products from Southeast Asia to Chongqing, he added.-
