Deputy PM, FM Minh holds talks with DPRK officials

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh had bilateral meetings with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho and Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the DPRK Workers’ Party Ri Su Yong during his official visit to the Northeast Asian country from February 12-14.

At the meeting with Ri Yong Ho, Minh expressed his pleasure to visit the DPRK, affirming Vietnam will work with the DPRK to boost exchanges and cooperation across fields that match the potential and interests of each side for peace and devevelopment in the region and the world.

Vietnam stands ready to share its experience in national construction, socio-economic development and international integration with the DPRK upon the latter’s request, said Minh.

He reiterated Vietnam’s consistent position of supporting dialogues to maintain peace, security and stability on the Korean Peninsula as wel as the Southeast Asian country’s willingness to make active contribution to the process.

Meanwhile, DPRK FM Ri said his country expects to further strengthen the relationship with Vietnam, especially in 2020 when the two countries will celebrate the 70th founding anniversary of of the bilateral ties.

He agreed to discuss on measures to enhance the ties in line with the new situation, extending thanks for Vietnam’s efforts to accelerate the dialogue process for peace, security, cooperation and development on the Korean peninsula.

Both sides briefed each other about recent developments in each country and agreed to continue coordination at regional and international forums like the United Nations, the Non-aligned Movement, and the ASEAN Regional Forum among others.

During his talks with Vice Chairman Ri Su Yong, Minh conveyed new year greetings from Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong to the DPRK leader Kim Jong Un.

The Party, Government and people of Vietnam attaches importance to maintaining and promoting the traditional friendship with with the DPRK counterparts based on its consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation, development, diversification and multilateralization of international relations, being friend and reliable partner and responsible member of the international community, Minh affirmed.

Ri Su Yong emphasized the Workers’ Party and Government’s standpoint of treasuring the traditional friendship between the two countries as well as determination to promote the bilateral ties, which was founded and nurtured by President Kim Il-sung and President Ho Chi Minh, considering it as a valuable asset that need to be preserved and upheld.

The host highly valued Minh’s official visit to the DPRK, saying it will help reinforce and promote the traditional friendship between the two countries and the partnership between the two Parties.

Ri Su Yong also spoke highly of Vietnam’s significant achievements in the cause of national construction and development as well as its international status, saying he wishes to visit Vietnam in the near future.
