Danang City authorities have decided to immediately dismiss any traffic officer found taking bribes, said the Secretary of the Danang Party Committee, Nguyen Ba Thanh.

At the meeting of the 8th session of the Danang People's Council, held on December 6, Thanh said the problem of police corruption has greatly improved after the city focused on the issue and asked officers to submit written statements promising not to take bribes.

He ordered the director of Danang City's Department of Public Security to install cameras in places where traffic teams are stationed to monitor their activities.

The cameras will be first installed at the entrances of Hoa Phuoc, Hoa Hai, Hoa Nhon and Kim Lien.

"Police who take bribes will not be reprimanded anymore, they will be stripped of their military status and dismissed immediately." Thanh said.

Thanh emphasised that the Department of Public Security must discuss financing issues with city authorities.

At the meeting, he also mentioned the problem of motorbike racing, which, he said, has been greatly curtailed since the city's actions. "Every motorbike we confiscated for racing was sold, and the money given to the city's budget and to hospitals," he said.
