Vietnamese nationals residing in Chomutov town of the Czech Republic have donated USD4,500 to assist their compatriots who were affected by recent floods in the central region.

Pham The Quang, vice president of the Vietnamese association in Chomutov, handed over the sum to a Vietnam Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs representative in Hanoi on December 6.

Earlier on December 3, Vietnamese people in the Republic of Korea raised nearly USD20,000 to support flood victims in the central region.

USD9,000 was donated at a fundraiser-art programme alone where traditional Vietnamese handicrafts were sold to local Korean people.

Hundreds of Vietnamese nationals and local German people also raised EUR9,000 for the victims in the homeland at a charity concert held Frankfurt am Main by the Vietnamese General Consulate.

Subsequent flooding caused by heavy rains in the central region in November claimed more than 40 lives, and damaged or inundated nearly 10,000 houses and 431 hectares of rice and subsidiary crops.
