Vietnam Airlines has warned customers of fake air tickets bearing its name circulating in Japan through Facebook.

According to the airlines' press release on March 10, a Facebook account named Dịch Vụ Hàng Không-Airserco has been offering the fake tickets for sales.

After getting personal information via Facebook, the cheaters use the customer details to book tickets on Vietnam Airlines' website to reserve ticket codes with the post-paid payment. Then, they forward Vietnam Airlines' emails confirming the booking to the customers.

After finding the booked codes and names on Vietnam Airlines' website, customers will transfer money to an account of a games company in Tokyo. The cheaters will take games cards and then later seek ways to turn them into cash.

Vietnam Airlines advise customers to buy tickets directly on its website or at official travel agent offices inside and outside the country. The information about these offices and agents are published on the airlines' website.

In January this year, police in Australia arrested a woman in connection with a website that allegedly cheated hundreds of Vietnamese students over cheap air tickets. Tickets in the scam were estimated to be in excess of $A360,000.
