Police in Thua Thien-Hue Province are analysing the black box to find out the cause of the train crash which killed three people on Monday afternoon.

Police investigate the collision between a train and a truck in the central Thua Thien-Hue Province on February 20

Director of the provincial Police Department, Colonel Le Quoc Hung, told the press on February 21 that they will soon announce the cause of the accident after studying the black box.

A north-south express train collided with a rock-laden truck at a level crossing in Phu Loc District at 2.15pm on February 20. The locomotive was decoupled from the train and four carriages derailed. Three people were killed in the accident, including the truck driver, his assistant and a train guard. Four other people were injured, including two passengers.

Around 250 other passengers heading north to Hanoi were taken to the Hue station to continue their journey.

Director of Binh Tri Thien Railway Management Company, Tran Hoan, told the media on February 21 morning that they would complete the repair work by the afternoon.

Most railway accidents occur due to a lack of attention by drivers or pedestrians when passing level crossings that are illegally opened by local people. Hundreds of illegal level crossings have been opened along the north-south railway, which officials say are difficult to deal with.
