Ill family struggles to live on
An ill couple in Hoa Binh City is in need of help for their treatment and their 20-year-old son who is suffering from cerebral palsy.
Nguyen Thi Tue and Nguyen Van Vui have a son together after meeting each other in Hoa Binh City. Unfortunately, their son has cerebral palsy. The family lives in a dilapidated tent. Four months ago, they bought another tent for VND5m (USD219) but even that modest sum was still a huge money for them. After that, both Tue and Vui fell ill.
Vui was diagnosed with lung cancer not long ago but stays home as they don't have any money left. Tue has goitre and also can't afford any treatment. In January, she suffered appendicitis pain and was brought to Hoa Binh General Hospital. Doctors found out that she has a tumour in her uterus and uterine fibroids that need to be operated on immediately. Tue only wants to treat the appendicitis and the tumour.
"I've never carefully looked at my health insurance card and didn't realise that the information is different from my ID card. I had to borrow USD438 from my nephew to pay hospital bill," she said.
"When my husband and I die, who'll care for our son?" she said. "I want to be healthy to go out fishing again and raise him."
Tran Thi Tuyen, head of Thau Village, said they had raised VND980,000 (USD43) to help Tue. "Our village is poor so we can't help them much. Both Tue and Vui's relatives live far away and are poor too."

"When we first moved here, there were a lot of fish but the prices were cheap. Sometimes we had nothing to eat but fish.
