Foreign tourist, Vietnamese tour guide found dead at Da Lat waterfall

A foreign traveller and a Vietnamese tour guide have been found dead at a tourism resort of Da Lat City in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong.

The area where the accident happened

The two victims were defined as Cwiakala Rafal, 33, from Poland, and Nguyen Quoc Khanh, 24, from Lam Dong Province’s Lam Ha District.

On the morning of February 23, Khanh and another local tour guide took a group of eight foreign tourists to visit the Hang Cop tourist resort. The tour was organised by Giac Mo Vang Ltd.Co. Khanh and Rafal unluckily fell during the rope swing over Hang Cop waterfall which is some 20 metres high.

Right after receiving the bad news, rescue forces were sent to the scene. At 3 pm on the same day, two bodies were found around 600 metres downstream from the waterfall and were taken to Lam Dong General Hospital for an autopsy for the inspection.

Hang Cop tourism site, invested by En Viet Joint Stock Company, has been suspended temporarily while awaiting upgrades. Despite the billboard banning foreign travellers from adventure games at Hang Cop waterfall, several travel firms have still brought tourists to this area.

According to the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Giac Mo Vang Ltd. Co. The company was not registered for adventure tourism programme while it is not allowed to receive and guide international tourists. Meanwhile, the two tour guides also have no licence.

Authorities are working to identify the cause of the accident.
