A statue expressing sorrow for the participation of South Korea in the war in Vietnam has been set up on Jeru Island.

The work by two artists Seo Kyung and Kim Eun Sung aims to console the souls of those killed in massacres by South Korean soldiers in Vietnam during the American war.

The Korean-Vietnam Peace Foundation made debut in April 2016, aiming to raise awareness of South Korea’s historical responsibility in the Vietnam War.

In October 2016, the foundation presented 52 documents and objects to Danang Museum, including 19 photos as part of an apology to Vietnam by some South Korean people who participated in the Vietnam War.

On occasion of every Vietnam’s Reunification Day (April 30), the foundation holds events to apologise Vietnam and pray for peace.

South Korea under the administration of Park Chung-hee, took an active role in the Vietnam War. From 1964 to 1973, South Korea sent more than 300,000 troops to Vietnam.
