Three prosecuted following deaths of eight kidney patients

Three people have been arrested and prosecuted following the deaths of eight kidney patients who were receiving dialysis at the Hoa Binh General Hospital.



Three people are arrested on June 22.

Bui Manh Quoc, 31, director of the Tram Anh Water Treatment Company was prosecuted for violating work regulations which cause death. Tran Van Son, 27, a staff member at the Equipment Department of Hoa Binh Hospital was prosecuted for irresponsibility which caused serious consequences. Another staff member at the hospital, Dr Hoang Cong Luong, 31, who worked in the Dialysis Department was prosecuted for violating treatment regulations.

The three were arrested and prosecuted on June 22, police said.

Eight out of 18 kidney patients who were receiving dialysis at Hoa Binh Provincial General Hospital died on May 29.

10 others were transferred to Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi for further treatment and have been discharged.

Investigations showed that the water used in the dialysis was the cause of the incident.

Director of the hospital Truong Quy Duong issued an apology and admitted his failure. Duong has also been suspended.
