Pavement clearing campaign continues in HCM City

Deputy chairman of HCM City’s District 1 Doan Ngoc Hai have shut down more parking lots on local pavements after he resumed the street clearing campaign.

On the evening of August 16, an inspection taskforce led by Hai checked a parking lot on Hai Ba Trung Street, Ben Nghe Ward. The parking area representative failed to show the parking lot’s operation licence, but just an old licence which issued to the district’s urban order management team and had expired from June 30.

Hai said that the district’s urban order management team was not allowed to own a parking lot, and it down from today, August 17.

Some days ago, he also instructed to clear illegal parking lots on Nguyen Van Binh Street which is often known as HCM City’s book street.

Hai also identified parking lot on Cong Xa Paris square area as illegally charging for parking as its licence expired in 2015, but has been collecting fees from visitors since then.

Also on the evening of August 16, the pavement clearance team led by Hai also punished a range of restaurants and water stalls for the pavement encroachment.

Many cars which were illegally parked on local pavements were also fined.

Hai started leading a team of District 1 to fight against pavements in January this year. In mid-May, he stated he had been forced to put the campaign on hold due to orders from the local authorities. 

   

Restaurants were also fined for pavement violation.
