Readers donate for heart surgery
A severely sick man in Dak Nong Province has given support by Dan Tri's readers to undergo heart surgery.
The operation alone cost VND60m (USD2,600), not to mention over post-operative costs.
Thuan's wife is in the fifth month of pregnancy and can only work in the fields for VND120,000 (USD5) a day to support the Thuan and their three children. No one wants to lend them money, fearing that they won't be able to repay the debt. They also put their house on sale but couldn't find buyers. Even if their house can be sold, it could only pay half of the operation’s cost.
Their relatives were poor and also couldn’t help.
After his story was published, many readers have donated to help Thuan. On August 16, a representative of Dan Tri and Military Hospital 175 visited and gave VND77,345,000 (USD3,400) to Thuan.
"I thought that I might have to raise our children alone as we couldn't borrow money anywhere. Everyone's help has brought hope to our family so that my children won't lose their father. We want to thank everyone who helped us," said Huyen, Thuan's wife.
Thuan was successfully operated on the next day.
