Mount Fansipan frozen as strong cold spell hits northern region
The northern region is experiencing the strongest cold spell so far this winter with temperatures in Sapa falling to minus one degree.
On the morning of December 16, Hanoi saw cold but dry weather with highest temperatures of 15-18 degrees while some northern mountainous areas experienced lower temperatures of 12-13 degrees. It is forecasted that the temperatures will fall by 3-7 degrees in all areas tonight which is the lowest since the beginning of this winter.
Sa Pa Town in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai may see the temperature fall to minus one degree at night and seven degrees during the daytime, while Mount Fansipan will experience cold of between minus two and three degrees.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, the cold spell will last for four days until December 20.
