Vietnam U23’s head coach Park Hang-seo has said that Qatar U23 are strong opponents, but they also have weaknesses that his team can exploit.

Speaking at a press brief ahead of their semi-final clash this morning, the Korean strategist said that Iraq and Qatar are strong teams in the Middle East, but they have a completely different playing style. “We are still analysing the Qatari squad and their strategies. We have prepared some alternatives for this match.”

Park’s side clinched a creditable second-place finish in Group D and then earned a nail-biting penalty shootout success against Iraq in the quarter-finals. They are preparing to mount pressure for the semi-final tommorow against Qatar.

“Qatar has good players and our first task is to stop them. However, all teams have their strengths and weaknesses. We are aware of the weaknesses of Qatar and are continuing to study further. We will try to make use of their weaknesses, but whether we succeed or not, we will have to wait till tomorrow,” Park said.

Despite the strain being put on his squad, Park said that his side still remains highly focused and will use their terrific spirit to overcome any physical issues in the game against Qatar, who recorded four successive wins on their way to the semi-finals.

Felix Sanchez, the Qatar’s head coach, said that his team is aware of the threat posed by Vietnam and will focus on the game. “They are an organised team and they have very talented players. But we are going to try to play effectively and stop them doing what they usually do so well,” the Spaniard stated.

The first semifinal between Vietnam and Qatar will take place at 15:00 (Hanoi time) on January 23 at Changzhou Olympic Sports Centre. The second semifinal will see Uzbekistan clashing with the Republic of Korea later on the same day in Kunshan, China.
