According to the National Committee of Traffic Safety, five traffic accidents happened on the last day of the Lunar New Year on Tuesday, causing 19 fatalities and 34 injuries, which was the lowest numbers compared to that of the previous days.
The committee also reported that the number of traffic accidents, fatalities and injures this Tet have decreased by 150, 8, and 218, respectively compared to that of 2017 Lunar New Year.
Most of the accidents involved motorbikes and were caused by drunk driving and breaking traffic rules, the committee said.
During the seven days of the holiday, traffic police dealt with over 19,000 violations on roads and issued fines worth VND 12 billion (USD528,867).
The National Committee for Traffic Safety also reported that a total of 20,280 traffic accidents occurred in Vietnam in 2017, causing at least 8,279 deaths and 17,040 injuries.
