“We wish to create an international learning environment for our students and encourage the study of mathematics, while promoting the image of Vietnam and the capital of a thousand years of civilisation,” said Le Ngoc Quang, deputy director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training.

The HOMC 2018 is held for junior students who are 14 years old and senior students who are 16 years old. Representatives from Vietnam include 24 students from Hanoi Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students and Nguyen Hue High School for Gifted Students.

The competition will take place on March 26-28 and the contestants will also have the opportunity to meet with famous mathematicians, visit Hanoi and attend exchange programmes.

The HOMC was first held by the Hanoi Mathematical Society in 2004 for 14 and 16-year-old students. This is the first year that will see the competition of foreign students.
