 >>  Pump to ease HCM City’s serious flooding
The Quang Trung Company have proposed extending their apparently successful pump operation on HCM City's flood-susceptible Nguyen Huu Canh Street for VND171 billion (USD7.77 million) over a seven-year period.

HCM City People’s Committee confirmed that they had been offered the continued service at VND24.4 billion to hire the pump system annually with the total cost for the 7-year hire reaching VND171 billion.

However, the HCM City Union of Science and Technology Association said the proposed price was too high, claiming it should be a maximum of VND16 billion annually.

On April 19, Quang Trung Company and HCM City signed a contract for the pump system to operate on Nguyen Huu Canh Street.

However the HCM City Flood Prevention and Control Centre failed to fix the price of the rental, so the company had the right to stop operations.

After that, the company extended the pump system operation for the city for a month voluntarily. However, to date, the company has not yet received any response from the centre about the official rental.

The pump system was said to have reduced flooding on Nguyen Huu Canh Street quite considerably during its pilot operation.
