Ngo Phuong Lan - Head of the Vietnam Cinema Department revealed the information during a press conference in Hanoi on August 23.

The festival, which is slated for October 27-31 is intended to highlight positive and creative work while also encouraging new movie talent, Lan said.

However, the festival has struggled to promote itself due to only being held once every two years, the official admitted.

"But we are sure that the event will well benefit film-makers and the audience," she said, adding that besides films sent to compete, they will also screen non-competition films and introduce new feature films, documentaries, and animations films from Vietnam, along with some of Iranian films which won awards at the Cannes, Berlin, and Oscar film festivals, as well as works from other countries.

The screenings will take place at the National Cinema Centre, the Kim Dong movie theatre, the CGV Vincom Centre cinema, and the BHD Star Vincom cinema.

A wide range of awards will be presented at the end of the event, including those for best film, director, and actor.

Some other activities to be organised at the festival include a HANIFF script-writing camp, film project market, free screenings, film discussions, and seminars to share the experiences of Polish and Iranian filmmakers.
