Tam beat four rivals in the women’s 51kg category to take the title.

She is a leading boxer of Vietnam in this category, adding this gold to the bronze in the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia last month and a gold at the Asian Boxing Championship held in Ho Chi Minh City last year.

In addition to Tam’s gold medal, Vietnam won two more silvers and one bronze. The silvers went to Do Thi Thuy in the 54kg and Nguyen Thanh Thanh Thom in the 57kg. The bronze was won by Nguyen Thi Huong in the 75kg category.

Vietnam sent five boxers to the event which attracted 200 fighters from 17 countries.

They will next be in the ring at the National Sports Games in late November in Hanoi.
