Students honoured for academic awards

The Ministry of Education and Training has honoured 33 students who achieved high results at international and regional olympic contests.

The honouring ceremony was held in Hanoi on the evening of October 19.

38 Vietnamese students attended international contests so far this year, winning 13 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze medals.

At the ceremony, Truong Thi Mai Politburo member, Secretary of Party Central Committee and Head of the PCC's Commission for Mass Mobilisation praised the students, particularly those from deprived backgrounds.

Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha said Vietnam had won 187 international prizes, including 60 gold, 78 silver and 40 bronze medals and nine certificates since 2014, marking a three-fold increase on the 2009-2013 period.

Two students from the High School for Gifted Students under Hanoi University of Science were presented with certificates granted by the prime minister and the Ministry of Education and Training for the silver medal at the 29th International Biology Olympia and the gold medal at the International Chemistry Olympiad in 2017 and 2018.
