Dumping site for Hanoi cleared after negotiation

Hanoi authorities have successfully negotiated with the residents living near Nam Son Dump to stop blocking the rubbish truck so that they can clear the piled up rubbish in the city.
Hanoi Department of Construction said related parties were working hard to deal with the piled up rubbish in the city. It's estimated that 4,000 tonnes of rubbish could be dealt with daily so the city would be cleaned in three to four days.
The representative of Hanoi Urban Environment Company said they had sent out more employees in order to clean the streets as quick as possible.
The protest started from the early morning of January 11. The blockade has led to rubbish being piled up in the city. According to Dong Phuoc An, deputy director of Hanoi Department of Construction, sluggish compensation payments for site clearance in this area had led to the protest.
On January 13, leaders of Hanoi People's Committee and Soc Son District authorities met and worked the representatives of the residents in Hong Ky, Nam Son and Bac Son communes. The Department of Natural Resources and Environment was asked to consult Soc Son District authorities on how to compensate the locals affected by Soc Son Waste Treatment Complex by January 17.
