Robots using Italian technology will be used for the implementation of the Nhon-Hanoi Station metro project.

According to the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB), the robots named Tunnel Boring Machine will be brought to Vietnam and will be used for digging tunnels from the end of this year.

The machines will operate at a depth of 21-22 metres.

The machines have also been used for Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien metro project in HCM City.

Nhon-Hanoi Station metro project which is 12 kilometres long has 12 stations, including four underground.

The project's total investment capital has been raised to VND36 trillion (USD1.57 billion).

Kicked off in 2010, the project has been rescheduled for being completed in 2022 after failing to meet its previous 2017 deadline.

Le Trung Hieu, deputy director of MRB, said that bomb and mine clearance work had been finished to prepare for the implementation of underground facilities.
