Many newly-paved streets pavements in Hanoi are seeing signs of damage after being put into use just over a year ago.

Many pavements in Hanoi were upgraded in 2017 with natural stone. The authorities claimed that the stones could last for 50 to 70 years. However many pavements have been greatly damaged, making pavements unsafe for pedestrians.

The pavements on Nguyen Chi Thanh, Tran Duy Hung and Nguyen Trai streets are the most damaged.

"I think one of the reasons for the damage is because of the stone's quality. The other reason is because of traffic density and how motorbikes often run on the pavements. Some especially strong tree roots also damaged the pavement," said one of the local on Nguyen Trai Street.
