Three die after drinking seed-infused rice wine in Khanh Hoa

Three men have died while two others in critical condition after drinking alcohol infused with seeds in Khanh Hoa Province.

Police in Khanh Vinh District announced on July 11 that they were investigating an alleged alcohol poisoning case which left three men dead in the area.


According to the police report, a group of five men went hunting in a forest in Khanh Vinh District on the evening of July 10. At 7 pm, they stopped for a while and drank distilled rice alcohol infused with seeds of a wild tree that they found in the forest earlier. After two hours, four of them then showed signs of poisoning including vomiting and convulsions.

One man who did not drink the wine managed to call for help to bring his friends to hospital. However, three of them including Cao Van Hung, 30, Cao Van Yen and Cao Van Hoang, both 22, died on the early morning of July 11.

Two others were still in critical condition.

Police are further investigating the incident.
