Diep Minh Hoang is the eldest child of Diep Thanh Huan, 29, and Tran Thien Men, 30, in the remote commune of An Huu, Hoai An District.

Men said that when Hoang was in the sixth month, he often suffered high fevers and anorexia. He also had tympanism when he urinated, causing him great pains.

“Initially, I and my husband just thought that he lacked nutrition. But, the situation quickly worsened with long fevers.

At Binh Dinh General Hospital, he was diagnosed with ureteral anomalies which needed an urgent surgery to avoid the possible risk of cancer.

The couple hoped that his son’s health would improve after the operation. However, later, he continued showing symptoms.

Once again, the boy was taken to Binh Dinh General Hospital where doctors said that he had a tumour on the left kidney. Then, he was moved to Ho Chi Minh City’s Children Hospital 2.

Hoang has experienced two surgeries

After the operation, doctors warned that his remaining kidney would see complications. So he needs regular medical check-ups and chemotherapy.

The family has incurred a big debt since the boy was hospitalised. They just live on farming work and the modest salary of the father who works as a builder.
