A poor boy student battling pneumonia has overcome the threat of death thanks to the support from Dantri/DTiNews and doctors from a Hanoi hospital.

Nguyen Trong Nguyen, 15, from the central province of Nghe An’s Thai Hoa Town was taken to Bach Mai Hospital around a month ago. During the seven-day stay there, he was moved to Central Lung Hospital in Hanoi due to his serious condition.

Nguyen’s parents divorced five years ago. Since then, he and his 10-year-old brother have been living with his mother.

The boy faced long fevers during the time he was preparing to take an exam into a local high school. He tried to take the exam after that he was hospitalised because of serious diseases such as pneumonia and problems related to gall, kidney and liver.

Medicines for Nguyen’s treatment are very expensive and were not covered by health insurance, and his family were too poor to afford the treatment.

According to doctors, treatment fees alone for Nguyen would be VND400 million (USD17,391).

The hospital called for financial support of VND150 million for the boy and offered two free meals for him and his mother per day.

Through an article published on Dantri recently, people have donated an additional VND105 million to the boy.
