PM writes to young woman fighting cancer
PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc has sent a letter to a 19-year-old student in Hanoi to encourage her as she fights cancer.
Tien said it was difficult to accept the truth but with support from her family and friends, she began battling cancer. Due to chemotherapy, she is now bald-headed yet finished in the top 12 of her university's beauty contest held since October.
Her optimism and energetic lifestyle has impressed many people online. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc also sent her flowers and a letter of encouragement.
In the letter, the PM also gave high regard to the university's beauty contest. He also thanked all teachers to mark Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20.
"I believe that you will be the winner. I wish you health. I hope you will be able to resume your studies soon and realise your dream," he wrote.
Tien said she didn't think that her story would receive the attention of the prime minister.
"Today is a day full of surprise and happiness when I received a letter and flowers from Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc," Tien said. "It is a long road but I'm happy that I'm listened to and supported by many people. The public and prime minister's attention is not just for myself but for all cancer patients."
She said it made her understand that it was not how fate treats you but how you face fate that mattered.
She went on to say that she wanted to thank the prime minister and everyone that supported her via the media.
