HCMC Secretary hosts meeting with overseas Vietnamese

Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan hosted a meeting on January 13 with more than 800 overseas Vietnamese from 25 countries and territories to acknowledge the occasion of the upcoming Lunar New Year.

Speaking at the meeting, Nhan said he warmly welcomed them home and extended his best wishes to them and their families in the new year.


The HCMC Party chief affirmed that the city always values the homecoming of overseas Vietnamese to make contributions to its development.

At the meeting, overseas Vietnamese were informed of the city’s notable achievements in 2019.

As part of the event, there were also other activities such as an exhibition on socio-economic achievements, a singing programme with the participation of many famous singers, and an introduction of Vietnamese cuisine.

Earlier, Secretary Nhan had a meeting with a number of notable overseas Vietnamese, during which they contributed ideas to help the city make improvements in transport, economic development, education, and the environment, among others.

For his part, Nhan thanked the overseas Vietnamese for their opinions and said he will direct the agencies concerned to take note of and deal with the issues put forward.
