HCM City highway littered with nails

Over 5 kg of tyre-puncturing nails have been collected on the National Highway 1, Binh Chanh District, HCM City.

As travellers from HCM City use the National Highway 1 to return to their hometown in the Mekong Delta, their vehicles continually had the tyres punctured as they crossed Binh Dien Bridge on January 22. All of them were damaged by nails.

On the previous day, the volunteer group SOS Huong Nam and many locals patrolled the highway in Binh Tan District and District 12 and collected a large number of nails and metal pieces. The nails were littered along the highway to travellers would be forced to go to the nearest repair shops and overcharged for the services.

Most good repair shops have already closed for Tet.

The police in HCM City said they had sent employees to help to collect nails as Tet nears and the number of travellers increased sharply. Dinh Minh Canh, a local who is well-known for his voluntary work nail collecting in the past 16 years, also helped.

According to SOS Huong Nam Group, they collected over 5 kg of nails and metal pieces on January 21 alone. They also noticed that many temporary repair shops have been set up near the locations littered with nails.

Travellers are advised to be careful at Binh Thuan Bridge where many nails were found.
