Lang Son border closed as coronavirus spreads in China

The northern province of Lang Son has closed the busy Tan Thanh Border Gate between Vietnam and China due to the coronavirus.

According to the Import and Export Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, China would officially open the border gate on January 31, however, the PingXiang City Committee for Foreign Economic Trade later announced that all activities would be halted from January 31 to February 8 to carry out preventive measures against coronavirus.

Tan Thanh Customs Department announced that activities at Tan Thanh Border Gate will be halted until the end of February 8. Trade would return to normal at Tan Thanh Border Gate and other smaller gates on February 9. Huu Nghi Border Gate would be opened for import-export activities from February 3.

Immigration activities are still allowed at the border gates.

Tan Thanh is a busy trading place of agriculture products between Vietnam and China. The flow of trades of goods will definitely be affected. The Import and Export Department advised local farmers and traders to follow news about PingXiang City border trading close in order to arrange their schedule wisely to avoid overcharging and congestion at the border gate.

The department also asked relevant agencies to follow the import-export situation regarding agricultural and fisheries products via border gates in Lang Son, Lao Cai, Quang Ninh and Cao Bang to prevent congestion. Farmers were asked to follow good practices and procedures about the quality, origin and label to limit the damage.
