Over VND1 trillion spent on caring for policy beneficiaries, needy people

Ho Chi Minh City spent over VND1 trillion (US$43.2 million) to care for policy beneficiaries and needy people on the occasion of Tet 2020, up US$1.1 million compared to that of Tet 2019, Standing Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem said.

Liem made the statement at a meeting jointly held by the municipal Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and Fatherland Front on January 31, to review the care for policy beneficiaries and disadvantaged people in the city during Tet 2020.

Liem noted that the city has timely and adequately implemented policies for revolutionary contributors, needy people and policy beneficiaries to help them enjoy a comfortable Tet.

Speaking at the meeting, Politburo member and Secretary of Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Nguyen Thien Nhan praised efforts of the city authorities, organisations and people for joining hands to create a warm Tet for nearly 1 million policy beneficiaries and needy people.

In addition, entertainment activities were organised better aligned with the maintenance of security and order.

However, Politburo member Nhan pointed out several unhealthy activities during Tet, such as gambling, and asked for more measures to deal with the problems.

On the occasion, the municipal People’s Committee presented certificates of merit to 224 units for successfully implementing the job of taking care of policy beneficiaries and disadvantaged people during Tet 2020.
