Local agencies propose to allow 8,000 foreign experts to enter Vietnam

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs have proposed to the government to allow over 8,459 foreign experts and specialists to arrive in Vietnam for work.

Deputy Minister Le Van Thanh said from reports of the departments of labour, invalids and social affairs in 63 cities and provinces, 68,521 foreign employees are working in Vietnam, 22.4% of them are Chinese and 34.4% are South Korean.

25,479 employees haven't returned to Vietnam and most of them are experts and managers at businesses. Even though firms have tried to find replacements but it is difficult to replace specialists and high-ranking managers in a short time. The construction industry will be affected. As a result, the progress of important projects will be largely slowed down and the unemployment rate will even be higher.

As of March 15, depending on the demands from each locality and diplomatic missions from various countries, the ministry has proposed to let 8,459 foreign experts and specialists enter Vietnam. 2,000 of them are needed at national projects such as the Cat Linh-Ha Dong Metro Line and Vinh Tan 1 Thermal Power Plant.

The proposal has been submitted to the prime minister to issue a work permit to the employees or confirmed who don't need the work permit after they complete health procedures as required by the Ministry of Health.
