By April 2, up to a total of 6.5 tonnes of fish and shrimps were found dead on Ma River in the central province of Thanh Hoa. The fish deaths happened on a 20 kilometre-river section which runs through several communes in Ba Thuoc District.

Among the figure of 6.5 tonnes, fish raised in cages accounted for some 4.5 tonnes, while the remainder were natural fish and shrimp.
On Tuesday morning, the provincial people’s committee decided to suspend the four production facilities from April 6 for discharging untreated wastewater the river, leading to the pollution.
The four are Tan Thai Thanh Ltd. Company, Dong Tam Production and Trading Ltd. Co; Song Ma Cooperative and a household workshop owned by Pham Thi Loan’s family.
Local authorities will continue inspecting other production facilities to timely detect possible violations.
