As of Thursday evening, Vietnam confirmed 255 Covid-19 cases, including 158 from abroad, accounting for 62% of the total. Among those, 128 have recovered.

Covid-19 spread risks still warned despite new case decline

However, Associate Pr. Dr. Tran Dac Phu, an adviser from the Ministry of Health’s Centre for Emergency Public Health Event, said that the decrease in new Covid-19 cases over recent days was no need for complacency as Covid-19 symptoms take up to 14 days to appear.

In some cases, the source of Covid-19 infection has not yet been identified.

It is now important for people in Vietnam to strictly conform to social distancing as instructed by the government, particularly when the virus has spread into the public.

"Vietnam has taken drastic measures in the Covid-19 battle, even when the patient numbers were not very high. Social distancing must be carried out strictly nationwide to ensure the efficiency for the virus prevention,” Phu noted.

According to the Ministry of Health, Vietnam would see more new Covid-19 infections due to cross-infection.

Dr.Truong Huu Khanh, head of the Infection - Neurology department at Children's Hospital 1, also warned virus transmitting threat from people who are released from quarantine areas. The risks remained high since many people were found violating the rules while being quarantine. A photo posted online not long ago showed many people gathered inside the quarantine area for a party before they were released, Khanh said.

Around 9,000 people who are related to Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi’s Covid-19 outbreak need to be tested for the virus.

Cities and provinces nationwide have been ordered to tighten control over the list of foreigners living in their localities, including hotels and guesthouses; Vietnamese people coming from abroad and Vietnamese people who directly worked with foreigners coming from Covid-19-hit areas.
