Nguyen Xuan Truong from Ca Village in Hanoi’s outlying district of Chuong My is now in critical condition due to kidney failure. However, despite the current scorching hot weather, he tries to sell sugar-cane juice to support the family.

Truong's wife great pains resulted by polyarthritis

Truong has been living with the disease for eight years, while his wife almost can’t move because of great pains resulted by polyarthritis. His wife Phuong has experienced thousands of injections but her condition has not yet improved.

“My family now depends on me so I have to try,” Truong said.

According to Truong’s mother-in-law Tran Thi Vinh, his disease has worsened as the family can’t afford the treatment.

Phuong said he had been serving as the family’s bread winner since her husband became ill; but last year, she suddenly faced terrible severe pains and was diagnosed with polyarthritis.

Due to the financial difficulty, she gave up the treatment regime and has mainly eased the pains by depressants. This worsened her condition.

The couple’s youngest child is just seven months old but she had weaned. Phuong said that she has to take a lot of medicine so it is unsafe for her to breast-feed her baby.
