Traffic situation improves in first five months

Vietnam has seen better traffic situation with the number of traffic accidents and traffic-related deaths and injuries falling in the first five months of 2020.

According to a report from the National Committee for Traffic Safety, a total of 5,508 traffic accidents occurred nationwide, killing 2,667 people and injuring 3,965 others during the five months.


The figures showed a fall of 18.75 percent, 14.74 percent and 24.53 percent in the number of traffic accidents, death and injuries, respectively, compared with the same period last year, the report said.

Among the accidents, 3,069 occurred on roads, claiming 2,603 lives and injuring 1,536 others. Meanwhile, 36 people were killed and seven others were injured in 36 railway accidents.

During the period, 32 accidents occurred on waterways, killing 31 and injuring four others, while five accidents were reported on waterways, killing two people.

There were 998 accidents reported between April 15 and May 14, killing 529 people and injuring 660 others.
