Vietnam confirms 18 new Covid-19 infection cases, total rising to 670

Vietnam has reported 18 new Covid-19 infection cases, raising the number of coronavirus patients in Vietnam to 670, the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control announced on Tuesday evening.

The new patients included 17 cases connected to Danang Hospital and one imported case from Equatorial Guinea.

Patients from 653-668, aged from 8-93, are from Danang. They include eight people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients, five relatives of patients in Danang Hospital, a patient in Danang Hospital, a health worker at the Danang Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital, and a patient of the Family Hospital in the city.

Patient 669 is a 50-year old man from Bien Hoa City in the southern province of Dong Nai. He and his wife visited a patient in Danang Hospital and they had close contact with a Covid-19 patient. His wife tested positive for coronavirus on August 1. He has been isolated and treated at Dong Nai Lung Hospital.

Patient 670 is a 50-year old man from the northern central province of Thanh Hoa. He boarded the flight VN6 from Equatorial Guinea to Hanoi on July 29. He together with all the passengers were immediately sent to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases for quarantine and treatment. The flight has recorded 20 Covid-19 infection cases so far.

Since July 25, as many 222 Covid-19 community infection cases have been recorded, the committee said.

On August 4, four more Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital in the northern province of Hoa Binh, raising the number of recoveries in Vietnam to 378. The country also reported the seventh and eighth Covid-19 deaths the same day.

At present, 133,279 people nation-wide are being quarantined for having close contact or entering from the virus-hit areas.
