Storm Noul kills one, injures dozens

Storm Noul left one person dead and dozens of others injured in the central region of Vietnam, the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control reported.

A report on the storm’s consequences from the provinces of Quang BInh, Quang Tri, Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Thua Thien-Hue revealed that by Friday morning, the storm had killed one person and injured at least 95 others in the localities. Meanwhile, more than 2,400 houses and many trees have been damaged.

Thua Thien-Hue Province was the hardest-hit with 6,780 houses damaged. In Quang Nam Province, the rains caused landslides in 100 spots, sweeping away many suspension bridges. Lots of areas have been isolated.

Thua Thien-Hue Province’s Power Company said that the typhoon has damaged up to 2,050 electrical substations and 200 electric pylons, affecting 280,000 of the firm’s customers. This has been the most serious loss for the company since 2005.

The storm has caused torrential rains for the central region with an average rainfall of 200-300mm. The weather has been forecasted to continue today, September 19, in the region. The rains would fall from tonight.
