Ich said that her eldest child Ong Van Quyen, 40, often screams like a small child, particularly when he is hungry. Quyen was born in good health, but he could not speak even at two years old.

Doctors diagnosed that he was deaf and mentally-ill. Since then, his condition has not yet improved.

The couple’s second child Ong Thi Thang, 36, is in the same situation with Quyen. Thang can’t speak and whenever she needs something, she only gives signals.

Meanwhile, their youngest child, Ong Van Kieu, 25, is also hearing-impaired.

"I’ve never heard them call me “mum” since they were born. Only when they are hungry, they usually shout,” Ich said.
