Quang Binh to launch more protection of langurs
Quang Binh Province will intensify the protection for 22 groups of 156 Hatinh langurs which listed as an endangered species.
The langurs have been under protection after they were detected and brought to Dong Hoa Commune, Tuyen Hoa District. Since then, they have developed well. The CIRD also discovered two groups with 30 Assam macaque that live together in Dong Hoa.
Various measures have been proposed including preventing forest encroachment, illegal logging or natural resources exploitation and find more places for the groups to expand and find food. Cattle grazing should also be limited.
Local authorities were asked to have more detailed plans and raise public awareness to protect the forest and the langurs together.
In Vietnam, Hatinh langurs are only registered in Quang Binh and a small group was found in Quang Tri Province.
