More Tan Son Nhat employees test positive for SARS-CoV-2

Two more staff at the Tan Son Nhat Airport in HCM City have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, while Hung Yen Province has become a new locality in the country to report community cases.

Nguyen Tri Dung, director of HCM City CDC announced on February 9 during the regular Covid-19 prevention meeting that the test results had come back positive for two more employees at Tan Son Nhat Airport. Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son arrived in HCM City to give directives about quarantine, treatments and contact tracing tasks.

Considering the situation in the northern region, after receiving the news about a confirmed case arrived in HCM City from Hai Duong Province on January 28, the Covid-19 Prevention Steering Committee held an urgent meeting and ordered tests for all employees at Tan Son Nhat Airport. From January 30 to February 5, they had detected one confirmed case.

The local health sector also worked with related agencies on contact tracing. Further tests showed four more positive cases on February 8. The city authorities took samples from 830 employees on February 7. The results on February 9 showed two more positive cases.

Six out of seven confirmed cases were ground staff at Tan Son Nhat Airport and one person is an employee of Vietnam Airlines. The authorities also tested 1,600 residents in District 1. The results were negative.

Authorities in Hung Yen Province also reported a positive case on February 9. A lecturer from Yen My District visited the Lung Hospital in Hanoi after having symptoms like coughing and high fever. He was transferred to the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases after the test result came back positive for coronavirus. He works at a college in Cam Giang District, Hai Duong Province and went to Hai Duong Province on January 28 before returning to Hung Yen. He had the symptoms 10 days later.

The authorities in Hung Yen immediately launched contact tracing tasks and disinfected high-risk areas.

Due to the complicated situation in Hai Duong and Cam Giang District in particular, the authorities in Hai Duong ordered to lock down in the district from 6 pm on February 5 until further notice.
